Winland and Guerlain team up to pay tribute to Giacomo Puccini with a combination of perfume and music

Winland Group partnered with Guerlain for “The Scent of Boundless Love,” an event celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, the great Italian composer and friend of Jacques Guerlain. Since it was founded in 1828, the House of Guerlain has cared deeply about the arts – an affinity that led to the creation in 1929 of the LIU fragrance. The brainchild of Jacques Guerlain, Liu was inspired by the character of the same name in Puccini’s opera Turandot. It was Guerlain’s way of paying olfactory homage to a female character ready to sacrifice everything for the man she loved, a symbol of a rare kind of unconditional love.

This collaboration between the House of Guerlain and Winland Group, a benefactor that actively supports exchanges between France and China, is also a tribute to the lasting friendship between Puccini and Jacques Guerlain.

They chose to honor Puccini with an open-air opera concert and exhibit. Performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hangzhou and featuring the composer’s best-known works, the concert was held at the Winland Center in Hangzhou on the evening of October 2, 2024. For the occasion, Scentys set up a network of 10 Stèle diffusers to diffuse Liu by Guerlain into the OMNI Place, a 1,600-square-meter outdoor amphitheater. Scentys worked closely with Winland Group to achieve this technical feat. Attendees were taken on a sensory journey combining olfactory notes and melodies.

The exhibit, curated by historian and perfume specialist Elisabeth de Feydeau, opened the same night in an adjacent space also scented by Scentys with Liu. It recounts the legendary story of Puccini by tying together opera, art and perfume through an immersive pathway that engages all the senses and spotlights Liu by Guerlain. Visitors will be able to tour the exhibit at no charge for one year.
