LET’S EXPLORE WHAT INVISIBLE POWER LOOKS LIKE
Olfactory marketing is emerging as a core element of strategies to create unique and memorable experiences in hotels. Everything visible to guests is important – the furnishings in the lobby, the bedding and decorations in the rooms – but fragrances have an invisible influence on their wellbeing. For hotels that pay attention to their signature scent, the unsuspected power of fragrances yields tangible results when it comes to guest satisfaction survey responses, room reservation rates and revenue.
Learn how Scentys, a major player in olfactory marketing, is turning hotel spaces into bona fide sensory destinations.
THE IMPACT OF FRAGRANCES ON HOTEL SPACES
People experience luxury hotels like theater décors. They become actors in scenes in which a hundred different rituals play out every day to bring the art of hospitality to life. Experiential luxury is embodied in each detail, creating enchantment through service and ambiance, the unique atmosphere of a place that exists outside of time.
Guests are looking for more than a comfortable mattress or design furniture. They want a moment of peace, a deeply relaxing experience in a unique environment that awakens all five senses.
A few notes of perfume will subtly help generate positive emotions and create an ambiance so serene that time ceases to exist.
Guests who feel good in a place will want to stay longer and will often happily consume more.
Olfactory marketing plays a role at all these levels. It:
- Improves guests’ perception of the quality of their stay,
- Favors impulse buying, perhaps ordering something extra at breakfast, taking home a monogrammed bathrobe, or booking time for self-care at the hotel spa,
- Increases loyalty to the hotel,
- Gives guests the impression they are in a high-end hotel, regardless of the cost of their room.
AREA SCENTING
A signature scent captures the spirit of a place. In the hospitality industry, and especially in hotels, the key is to choose or formulate an olfactory ambiance that corresponds to the brand image.
Some hotel chains and palaces even select different scents for different areas: the fresh smell of madeleines in the breakfast room, a faint, clean floral scent in the hallways, an elegant wood fragrance in the lobby, an aromatherapy diffuser in the spa, notes of leather in the closets…
THEY USE OLFACTORY MARKETING TO ENHANCE THE GUEST EXPERIENCE
Hôtel Artemisia | A modern and chic olfactory atmosphere in a truly unique setting
Nestled in the heart of the Montmartre district, the center of artistic and festive activity in Paris, Hôtel Artemisia invites its guests to experience a taste of the Roaring Twenties thanks to a décor inspired by the world of The Great Gatsby.
To enhance a unique character that blends chicness and modernity, the hotel recently began creating an olfactory ambiance with light and green notes, a nod to absinthe, a spirit that was very much in vogue in the late 18th century in this part of the French capital.
Scentys technology is used in the lobby to usher guests into a scented atmosphere that carries them off to a different place and time.
DIFFUSING A SIGNATURE SCENT IN THE ICONIC LES BAINS PARIS HOTEL
Les Bains Paris wanted to use SCENTYS technology to diffuse the “Atmosphère” fragrance from its own Les Bains Guerbois brand, inside this iconic site with a thousand stories to tell. A temple of wellbeing when it opened its doors in 1885, then a nightclub in the 1980s and 1990s (when it was Les Bains Douches), the building underwent different transformations before being turned into a five-star hotel in 2015.
The beauty brand associated with the hotel has, since 2016, offered a candle and range of body fragrances that capture all the key moments in the building’s history.
Our fragrance department worked with the hotel team to ensure that its signature scent was reproduced as faithfully as possible. It is diffused subtly into the air, inviting clients into a totally new universe where all their senses come alive.
A COZY ATMOSPHERE AT THE terrass HOTEL
Located right in the heart of Paris, near Montmartre, the Terrass Hotel is a charming destination for visitors with its typically Parisian design, not to mention its breathtaking view of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica located just steps away.
To enhance its chic and cozy atmosphere, the hotel wanted to diffuse its scent in the reception area and lobby on the ground floor. It seemed only natural for it to choose the Lobby Bar fragrance, to create a warm and inviting ambiance in this four-star hotel.
Signature scent for the Mercure Paris Suresnes Longchamp hotel
For several years now, the Mercure Paris Suresnes Longchamp hotel in Suresnes has been using Scentys technology to create a fragrant atmosphere in its lobby. It is the perfect extra touch for this magnificent setting, allowing guests to relax the moment they walk through the door. Demonstrating a keen interest in the world of perfume, the hotel teams selected two fragrances from our collection, one for the spring/summer and one for the autumn/winter. The scents may evolve over time until the hotel finds its ideal signature scent.
